On April 21, speaking with reporters, Mr. Tach Hong Quan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Quang Commune (Cao Bang City) - confirmed the above incident and said that at noon on April 20, people discovered a fire on a high hill, so they put out the fire together. When they finished extinguishing the fire, they discovered the body of Mr. Trieu Van Sen (born in 1958 - local resident).
"The results of the security camera extraction show that at around 12 noon, Mr. Sen took a broom tree and went up the hill to clean up. Maybe after cleaning up, he burned leaves and spread the fire, so he was unfortunately suffocated and died" - Chairman of Vinh Quang Commune People's Committee said.
According to Mr. Quan, after the incident, the authorities have handled the steps according to regulations, and the victim's family also asked not to conduct an autopsy.
It is known that also on April 21, in Song Hien ward, about 5 hectares of forest were on fire. The fire was over 1 km long, including bushes, glue, and pine trees.
Due to dry weather, strong winds spreading ashes caused fires to break out at many locations, making firefighting difficult.
Currently, the weather is in the humid season, the risk of forest fires is very high. To proactively prevent and fight forest fires and minimize damage caused by forest fires, functional forces need to regularly patrol areas at high risk of forest fires; promptly detect fire spots and mobilize support forces to prevent major fires.
In addition, it is necessary to do a good job of propaganda and education to raise awareness and responsibility in forest fire prevention and fighting.
