Floods cause more than 5,800 households in Ninh Binh to be flooded

Ninh Binh - Rain and floods have flooded more than 5,800 houses, affected over 11,300 hectares of rice, and more than 1,000 people have been evacuated to safe places.

According to a quick report from the Ninh Binh Provincial Civil Defense Command, as of 10:00 AM on September 18, prolonged heavy rain and floods on rivers have caused flooding, greatly affecting people's lives, agricultural production and many infrastructure projects in the province.

From 7:00 PM on September 13th to 7:00 AM on September 18th, many areas in Ninh Binh recorded very heavy rainfall. Water levels on the Hoang Long and Day rivers rose, and by 10:00 AM on September 18th, the water level was still above alarm level III.

Floods have caused 5,836 houses outside the dyke to be flooded. Some localities have a large number of affected households such as: Gia Tuong commune 1,245 households, Thanh Lam 1,065 households, Phu Van 700 households, Phu Son 464 households, Gia Vien 450 households and Thanh Son 347 households.

By the morning of September 18, 10 school sites were still flooded, requiring students to take leave from school or switch to online learning.

Localities have organized the relocation of 316 households with 1,041 people in the dike area to safe places. In addition, there are also 2 households with 9 people in Phu Son commune that must be relocated due to house foundation subsidence. There are 3 houses collapsed or roofs collapsed.

Floods also caused significant damage to agricultural production. As of 8:30 am on September 18, Ninh Binh province had 11,343 hectares of rice affected, of which 231 hectares were completely flooded, 437 hectares of rice were flooded and 10,675 hectares were flooded from 2/3 to 3/4 of the plants.

In Phu Son commune, 6 landslide points appeared near people's houses and roads to residential areas. A section of road in Hong Thang village was eroded by strong currents, washed away the sewer pipes below, leaving only the concrete surface of the road, posing a potential danger. Local authorities have planted warning signs and banned cars from passing.

To respond to floods, Ninh Binh province has mobilized 999 officers and soldiers of the army, police, militia and shock forces along with 16 vehicles to participate in evacuating people, moving property up high and handling construction incidents.

Irrigation works management units are operating 675 fixed electric pumps, 160 head drainage culverts, one lake culvert and 25 spillways to drain water for residential areas, agricultural production, urban areas and industrial parks.

In Phu Van ward, functional forces have built sandbags and raised the flood prevention line about 200m long in the Ly Thuong Kiet street area, Manh Tien residential group.

In the coming days, the province requests to continue to review riverside areas and deeply flooded areas to proactively evacuate people; prepare food, medicine, drinking water and essential necessities at evacuation points. Forces maintain dike patrols, check dams and reservoirs, and prepare human resources, materials, and vehicles according to the "4 on-site" motto.

For areas where water has receded, localities are required to urgently disinfect, ensure domestic water and environmental sanitation, and prevent epidemics from arising after rain and floods.
