According to data from Vietnam Electricity Group, at 1:30 PM on May 8, in the Northeast region, Tuyen Quang Lake had an upstream water level of 110.22 m, nearly 10 m lower than the normal water level. The water flow to the lake reached 135 m3/s, the total discharge through the plant was 129.87 m3/s.
In the Northwest, the reservoirs on the Da River system continue to operate for power generation. Lai Chau Lake discharges 516 m3/s through the plant; Huoi Quang discharges 163 m3/s. Son La Lake maintains the largest discharge flow in the area with 1,348 m3/s, while Hoa Binh Lake discharges 863 m3/s for power generation even though the water flow to the reservoir reaches 2,445 m3/s.
Thac Ba Lake also generates electricity with a discharge flow of nearly 140 m3/s. Ban Chat Lake alone has not been discharged.
In the North Central region, most reservoirs have low flow. Khe Bo reservoir generates electricity with a discharge flow of 206.6 m3/s, while Trung Son, Ban Ve and Quang Tri reservoirs have not yet discharged.
The South Central Coast region recorded many reservoirs with very small inflows. Some reservoirs still generate electricity with low flow rates such as A Vuong (27.5 m3/s), Vinh Son A (10.21 m3/s) and Song Hinh (19.03 m3/s). Many other reservoirs have not yet discharged.
In the Central Highlands, some reservoirs generate electricity with average flow rates such as Pleikrông (122 m3/s), Thượng Kon Tum (26.55 m3/s), Sê San 4 (23 m3/s).
Some reservoirs operate discharging through spillways with small flow rates such as An Khe, Srepok 3 and Buon Kuop. Most of the remaining reservoirs have not yet discharged.
In the Southeast region, Tri An reservoir has a water level of 57.67 m, a water inflow rate of 150 m3/s and has not been discharged.
From the evening of May 7 to the morning of May 8, the Northern region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, common rainfall from 20-40mm, locally over 100mm. In thunderstorms, it is necessary to prevent tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on May 8, the area from Ha Tinh to Hue City will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 10-30mm, locally over 70mm.
In the Mekong Delta region, scattered showers and thunderstorms will appear in the late afternoon and evening, with heavy rain over 50mm in some places.
Especially in Hanoi, there is rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain.
