Speed up highways and ring roads
In the first days of the year, the construction site of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project through Thu Duc City is still bustling with construction throughout Tet to ensure progress. The elevated section of the belt road through Thu Duc, nearly 15km long, is expected to be completed by the end of this year, connecting directly with Nhon Trach Bridge (also part of Ring Road 3) and is expected to be put into operation from April 30. The entire Ring Road 3, more than 76km long, is expected to open to traffic in 2026, becoming a strategic traffic axis of the key economic region in the South.
Along with that, the 58km Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is also entering the completion stage. The first two sections of the route through Long An (4km) and the last section through Dong Nai (more than 7km) have been temporarily exploited since January 23. It is expected that by the end of this year, the entire route will be put into operation, creating an important transport corridor between the Southeast and Southwest regions.
When this system is completed, goods from the West can be easily transported along the Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau highway, then connect to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh highway and access the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau highway (expected to be completed in 2025). From here, vehicles can turn left to Long Thanh airport, turn right to Ba Ria - Vung Tau or continue on the North - South highway in the East.
In addition, the nearly 55km Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway project was also started on February 1. This is the first expressway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and the Central Highlands, expected to be completed in 2027.
When put into operation, this route will connect with the Chon Thanh - Gia Nghia expressway (expected to start construction in 2025), creating a strategic traffic axis from the Central Highlands to major economic centers such as Long Thanh airport and Cai Mep - Thi Vai port.
Another important project is the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway, nearly 51km long, with a total investment of more than VND19,600 billion, expected to start construction this year and be completed by the end of 2027. When put into operation, this expressway will help reduce the load on National Highway 22, while providing the fastest connection from Ho Chi Minh City to Moc Bai border gate, promoting trade with Cambodia.
Long Thanh Airport and Tan Son Nhat Terminal T3 are in operation
In addition to the expressway system, key projects such as Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai) and Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport are also being accelerated, expected to be put into operation in 2025, contributing to shaping the future of regional transportation.
Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat airport has completed about 83% of the work, expected to finish 3 months early and be ready for operation on April 30, 2025. This is the largest domestic terminal in the country with a capacity to serve 20 million passengers/year, equivalent to 7,000 passengers/peak hour, significantly reducing the load on the existing airport.
At the inspection of Long Thanh airport progress on February 1, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed that the target completion date of December 31, 2025 remain unchanged. The investor and contractors have adjusted construction methods, increased machinery, and organized construction in 3 shifts and 4 teams to ensure progress.
Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 will have a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. When operational, it will be a strategic air transport hub for the entire southern region, helping to reduce the load on Tan Son Nhat Airport and opening up new development momentum.
From the West, people can travel to Long Thanh airport via Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, then connect to Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway and T1 route leading directly to the airport. Similarly, people from Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan will use Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, then go through T2 and T1 routes.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau will connect to the airport via the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, while Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Tay Ninh will use the beltways and expressways under construction.
