On the morning of February 6, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of the People's Committee of Trung Chai Commune, Sa Pa Town said: At around 11:20 p.m. on February 5, the local authorities received a report that a young man jumped off Mong Sen Bridge and committed suicide.
Through coordination with the Traffic Police Department - Lao Cai Provincial Police to search under the bridge, the authorities discovered a dead person.
Initial verification, the victim is Nguyen Van K, born in 2008, residing in Bao Ha commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province.
Immediately afterwards, the police secured the scene and took statements from those involved to clarify the incident.
Started in early 2020, Mong Sen Bridge is an overland bridge (not spanning the river) under the project connecting Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway to Sa Pa town, aiming to reduce traffic pressure on the main route of National Highway 4D. With the Mong Sen bridge's head pillar 83m high from the ground, Mong Sen Bridge is currently the overpass with the highest pillar in Vietnam.
Previously, on May 29 and June 30, 2024, authorities also recorded two cases of suicide by jumping off Mong Sen bridge.
