On the morning of September 1st, a new feeling crept into everyday conversations. Many people greeted each other, then reminded each other: "Today is the first day I am a citizen of Quang Ninh city".
Some people have lived in Quang Ninh for many years, familiar with the two words "province", now saying "Quang Ninh city" still feels a bit... stumbling.
September 1, 2026 marks the time when the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Quang Ninh city officially takes effect.
A familiar place stepped into a new page, not by noisy changes, but starting from very small things in everyday life.
This morning, walking on familiar streets, people can recognize the change right from the signs.
At many agencies and offices, the words "Quang Ninh province" have been replaced by "Quang Ninh City".
New signs appear on headquarters and public works, creating a different appearance in spaces that are already too familiar to people.
Some people stopped to look at the new signs longer than usual. Some people took photos and sent them to friends and relatives.
It may just be a few words on a sign, but for many people, it is the most noticeable sign of a major change.
Not only signs, in recent days, agencies and units have also urgently prepared for the time to switch to a new model. The seal has been changed to use the name Quang Ninh City, ensuring that administrative activities are carried out from the first day.
On the first day, Quang Ninh city still retains its familiar shape of Quang Ninh province.
Ha Long Bay is still green under the early morning sun, with tourist boats departing to take tourists to visit Ha Long Bay. Cars are still going back and forth on the roads. Neighborhoods are still waking up in their inherent rhythm of life.
Only the way of calling has changed.
Among those different emotions is a common point: pride in where I live and expectation for a new journey.
The first day may still be a bit unfamiliar. People may take some time to get used to saying "Quang Ninh City" instead of "Quang Ninh province".
But then the new way of calling will become as natural as the roads they have gone through every day.
The first day of Quang Ninh city began like that: not too noisy, but enough for everyone to realize they are facing a special milestone.
Resolution No. 36/2026/QH16 on the establishment of Quang Ninh city was passed by the 16th National Assembly on August 24, 2026, based on the entire natural area and population size of Quang Ninh province. The resolution officially took effect from September 1, 2026, marking an important turning point in Quang Ninh's development process.
Quang Ninh city borders Bac Ninh city, Hai Phong city, Lang Son province; East Sea and the People's Republic of China. The city has a natural area of 6,231.27 km2; population size of 1,523,400 people; has 54 commune-level administrative units, including 30 wards, 22 communes and 2 special zones.
