Fishermen rush to anchor their boats safely
On the afternoon of August 23, at Cua Phu fishing port (Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province), many offshore fishing boats arrived at the port one by one, preparing to respond to storm No. 5.
Mr. Lai Tan Dang, owner of the QB.91105-TS boat (Indong Duong village, Dong Hoi ward), said that fishermen had been warned early so they proactively left the fishing area.
" all ships that have not yet set sail have been anchored since morning, and all ships at sea that have not yet heard of the storm immediately return to the wharf to take shelter. All boats are tightly tied, and the fishing gear on the boat is also tightly tied to avoid being swept away by the storm," said Mr. Dang.

Not only Mr. Dang, many other fishermen also shared their concerns about the complicated developments of the storm. They expressed their desire to receive timely support and guidance from the authorities so that anchoring can ensure safety for both people and vehicles.
Major Pham Quang Hung - Head of Nhat Le Control Station (Quang Tri Border Guard), said that the unit maintains regular communication, calling on ships to urgently enter the shelter.

At the wharves, officers and soldiers are assigned to support the arrangement and tie-ping of boats to minimize collisions and fires when the storm makes landfall.
"We instructed large ships to stay outside and small ships in appropriate locations to avoid collisions. At the same time, it is recommended that people do not stay on the boat during the storm because it is very dangerous, Major Hung emphasized.

According to the Provincial Border Guard, the whole of Quang Tri currently has 8,725 vehicles with 24,198 workers. As of 3:00 p.m. on August 23, there were still 406 vehicles/2,136 workers operating at sea. Units are maintaining communication and instructions on how to move to a safe location.
Currently, more than 1,000 officers and soldiers are fully mobilized with means and equipment, ready to perform their duties.
The government urgently deploys response
Faced with the risk of direct impact of storm No. 5, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command has since August 22 implemented a response plan, inspected warehouses, vehicles, and food reserves, and mobilized to be ready when there are bad situations. Units also coordinate with local authorities to review vulnerable locations, dams, and areas at risk of flooding and landslides to proactively evacuate people.
The People's Committee of Quang Tri province and departments, branches and sectors have issued documents directing and requesting localities to urgently call on boats to come ashore, move all tourists on Con Co island to the mainland, and prepare plans to evacuate people in coastal areas, river mouths and low-lying areas. Mountainous communes are also required to identify areas at risk of flash floods and landslides to be ready for evacuation.

At the same time, the province directs functional sectors to ensure reserves of food, provisions, medicine, mobile medical facilities; mobilize forces and means to respond to incidents, protect the safety of students when the new school year is approaching.
For the dyke and dam system, localities have inspected, assessed the current status, repaired damage, and updated emergency response plans.
