On October 30, according to the actual records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, many people in Lam Chinh village, Thanh Quan commune, Thanh Hoa province gathered in the sugarcane hill area, set up camps (on the road leading to the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company) to protest environmental pollution.
Ms. Lo Thi Tinh (47 years old, residing in Lam Chinh village, Thanh Quan commune) said that there are 7 pig farms operating in the commune. Of which, there are 4 farms around Lam Chinh village.
"The pollution has been happening for about 3 years now, but in previous years the stench was less. Up to now, pollution has become extremely serious. Many days, people in the village cannot eat because of the strong stench" - Ms. Tinh said indignantly.
According to Ms. Tinh, the incident became tense when yesterday (October 29), the stench made it impossible for the students of the Kindergarten to study. Too upset, people gathered and set up willinglies all night to ask pig farm owners to handle and fix it.
Ms. Le Thi Duong (67 years old, residing in Lam Chinh village, Thanh Quan commune) shared that the people's gathering to protest the pig farm was extremely unfortunate. The stench of the farms has disrupted people's lives and affected people's health.
"We have complained a lot but the matter has not been resolved, the stench is getting worse. I just hope that in the coming time, the authorities will intervene, handle it completely, and return clean air to people to live in peace" - Ms. Duong said.
Also according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, by noon on October 30, people were still gathering in large numbers, at the beginning of the road leading to the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company.

Mr. Le Tien Dat - Chairman of Thanh Quan Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa Province - said that regarding people's reflections on the problem of pollution in pig farms, before the operation of the two-level local government, the relevant agencies have stepped in to inspect and request the farms to overcome shortcomings and limitations in environmental issues. Along with that, the locality has also conducted a dialogue with the people, and the farms have committed to overcoming the problem.
"Although the farms have made commitments, the odor has continued recently, and there has not been any significant changes. Faced with the above situation, the authorities have come to coordinate with the locality to inspect, determine the level and request the farm to commit to thoroughly handling this problem" - Mr. Dat informed.
