Phu Tho is implementing a plan to arrange villages and residential groups in the area. One of the contents that people are particularly interested in is naming new units after arrangement.
Ms. Bui Thi Mung, in Sang Moi village, Nat Son commune, Phu Tho province, said that local people strongly agree with the policy of streamlining the apparatus and rearranging residential areas.
However, she hopes that the names that have been associated with local history and culture for a long time will be considered for preservation.
Our hamlet is mainly Muong ethnic people. The village name has existed for a very long time, associated with many generations of residents. I support the arrangement, but then it is necessary to keep the old name or choose a new name that is suitable for the local identity," Ms. Mung shared.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Bui Viet Ha, from Thanh Thuy commune, said that many landmarks in Phu Tho have become cultural and brand imprints of each rural area.
According to Ms. Ha, famous products in Thanh Thuy such as Bo village sauce or Dao Xa honey cake are all associated with traditional names. This is not just a simple place name but also a familiar indication for consumers.
Regarding this content, Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee said that according to the plan, the locality has regulations on renaming villages and residential groups.
Accordingly, commune-level administrative units with villages and residential groups with duplicate names after arrangement; villages and residential groups that have not agreed on the way of naming (according to serial numbers or geographical names); or wish to change names from residential communities will be considered for arrangement and renaming accordingly.
The naming of villages and residential groups according to place names or order numbers is decided by the Party Committee, local authorities and residential communities, ensuring uniformity within the scope of commune-level administrative units.
The authority to arrange, name and rename villages and residential groups belongs to the Commune-level People's Council. This agency is responsible for considering and deciding on the arrangement, naming and renaming of villages and residential groups in the area according to regulations.
According to Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee, currently the whole province has 5,049 villages, hamlets, residential areas and residential groups belonging to 133 communes and 15 wards.
After implementing the arrangement of provincial and commune-level administrative units in 2025, the number of units at the grassroots level increased significantly, creating pressure on management work.
According to the expected plan, Phu Tho will reduce from 5,049 to 3,082 villages and residential groups, equivalent to a reduction of nearly 2,000 units.
The province also proposed to unify the way of calling it in the direction that in communes it is a village, in wards it is a residential group. After arrangement, about 9,246 non-specialized personnel and nearly 24,600 people directly participating in activities in the residential community continue to be assigned to perform tasks.
