Due to the impact of the circulation of storm No. 3 (Yagi), Ha Giang province has had prolonged heavy rain, causing many landslides and landslide risks. For example, in Bac Me district, after checking, there are 8 locations with 136 households living in high-risk landslide areas.
At Pac Mia hamlet, Yen Phu town, currently on the positive slope there are many cracks about 150m long, on the negative slope (river bank) there are cracks 20m long appearing along the national highway.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Huy, residential group 4, Yen Phu town (Bac Me) said that his family is in an area at risk of landslides. Currently, on the positive slope behind his house, there are many cracks from 20 - 60cm and signs of a landslide of about 3m, posing a danger to 15 households.
"The land behind my house is still wet, running from the middle of the slide to the foot of the slope. Even though the weather is sunny, the landslide continues. If it rains heavily for a long time, the whole house will easily be buried," Mr. Huy worried.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Manh Tuyen - Chairman of Bac Me District People's Committee - said that currently, in some localities in the area, landslides have occurred, threatening to affect people's lives.
Faced with the risk of landslides, the People's Committee of Bac Me district has provided information and requested Ha Giang province to consider the decision to declare a natural disaster emergency as well as agencies at all levels to arrange investment capital to build anti-landslide embankments in areas at risk.
At the same time, direct landslide-affected localities to urgently assess the level of impact and mobilize forces to support households living in landslide-prone areas to evacuate to safety.
"For households at high risk of landslides, we have evacuated them to safe places. Up to this point, there have been no recorded casualties," the district leader informed.
