According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department, this unit has just received 5 toothpick turtles from the family of Ms. Luu Thi Xuan Nu Khai Hoan (Tan Thuan Dong Ward, District 7) and 1 pig-tailed monkey from Ms. Le Thi Hong (Binh Tan District).
Ms. Khai Hoan said that during her trip to Long An, she saw her friend raising 5 turtles in an unsanitary environment. Initially, she intended to release them, but after researching, she learned that toothpick turtles would have difficulty integrating into the new environment and could die if not properly cared for. Therefore, she decided to hand them over to the Forest Protection Department for rescue and release them back into the wild.

During the turtle delivery procedure, a 3.5-kg turtle crawled out of Ms. Khai Hoan's house. Luckily, thanks to the help of neighbors and the protection of the residential area, the turtle was found and handed over to her.
The rangers identified these 5 turtles as toothless turtles, scientific name is Heosemys annandalii, belonging to group IIB in the list of endangered and rare forest animals. The total weight of the 5 turtles is 23.5 kg.

In addition, the Forest Protection Department also received a pig-tailed monkey from Ms. Le Thi Hong. This monkey weighs 4.3 kg, scientific name is Macaca leonina, and is also in Group IIB in the list of endangered and rare wild animals. Ms. Hong said that the monkey eats little and is less active, so she wants to give it to the rangers for care and release into the natural environment.
All of the above animals have been taken to the Wildlife Rescue Station for rescue according to regulations.
