On January 9, the People's Committee of Trieu Binh commune (Quang Tri province) said that the locality had just received 1 mountain-sided turtle individual voluntarily handed over by people in the area.
According to initial information, at about 4 pm on January 6, while working in the fields, Mr. Hoang Le Tri Viet (resident of Gia Do village, Trieu Binh commune) discovered a turtle near the cultivated field area. Realizing that this was a rare wild animal, Mr. Viet proactively kept it and contacted the local authorities to hand it over.
After receiving it, Trieu Binh Commune People's Committee made a record, organized the care of the turtle individual, and at the same time conducted verification of the owner and legal manager according to regulations. Local authorities also directed relevant units to coordinate with forest rangers to complete procedures to soon release the turtle individual back to the natural environment.
According to Trieu Binh Commune People's Committee, the handed over individual is a border turtle (scientific name Manouria impressa), weighing about 2kg, 35cm long, belonging to group IIB - a endangered and rare species that needs to be prioritized for protection.
