On the evening of July 15, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Quan Van Giang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Nhan Commune, Phu Tho Province - said: At about 4:30 p.m. the same day, a tragic accident occurred in the area due to flash floods.
According to Mr. Giang, at that time, Mrs. Xa Thi Tin (born in 1984, residing in Tru Nua hamlet, Muong Chieng commune, now Duc Nhan commune) and her children went to the area behind the house, near Chieng stream, to feed the ducks. While not being prepared, floodwaters from upstream suddenly poured in, sweeping away both mother and child.
"Fortunately, the son clung to the anchor rope near the shore and escaped, while Mrs. Tin was swept away by floodwaters and went missing. Up to now, the victim's whereabouts have not been found," Mr. Giang informed.
Immediately after the incident, the Duc Nhan commune government coordinated with Tan Pheo commune to mobilize about 50 people to search along the stream. However, due to heavy rain, strong water flows, and complex mountain and forest terrain, rescue work encountered many obstacles.
The authorities are continuing to expand the search area, while mobilizing people living along the stream branches to coordinate in notifying if traces related to the victim are found.
