On the afternoon of July 6, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Ke Commune, Dien Bien Province (old Muong Nhe District) confirmed the information that at around 8:00 a.m. on July 4, in Huoi Lich 1 Village, Nam Ke Commune, 3 children were raising a raft across the stream, just when the stream water was rising and flowing rapidly, causing the rope to slip.
The two children were lucky to swim to shore safely, however, Mr. Lau A Tua's (8 years old) child was swept away by the strong water.
Immediately after receiving the news, the leaders of Nam Ke commune were present at the scene, directing the search and rescue work. About 100 people, including police, military, militia and people, were mobilized to organize the search for the missing boy.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh added that the commune government also proactively coordinated with neighboring communes to expand the search area, hoping to soon find the child.
As of noon on July 6, although the search was still underway, the child had not been found.
It is known that the whole province of Dien Bien is in the peak period of heavy rain. Many streams rise, posing a potential safety risk to people, especially children who often live and travel near rivers and streams.
