On March 18, functional agencies of Khanh Hoa province were still investigating the cause of the accident on the cargo ship Truong Nguyen 18, which killed 3 crew members and injured 2 others.
According to initial information, around late night on March 16, Ca Na Commune Police received a report from Trung Nam Ca Na International Port about the Truong Nguyen 18 ship (with 11 crew members) anchored outside the port to wait to load goods when a serious incident occurred.
The incident caused 5 crew members to be injured, including 3 deaths on the spot, and the remaining 2 were injured and taken to medical facilities for treatment.
A quick report from the Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority in the afternoon of the same day said that the initial cause may be that the crew members were electrocuted while working under the ship's hold.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Binh Thuan Maritime Port Authority contacted the ship to grasp the situation, and at the same time requested the captain to urgently pull the anchor and mobilize the ship to the port to serve rescue and investigation work.
This unit also dispatched tugboat Tuy Phong 02 to support the process of bringing the ship into port, and at the same time notified the incident to relevant functional forces for coordination in handling.
However, according to the records of functional forces at the scene, the victims showed no signs of being affected by external force; internal organs remained in the dissected position, lungs were pink.
From these signs, functional agencies do not rule out the possibility that the crew members died from gas poisoning in the oxygen-deficient ship's hold environment.
Currently, the official cause of the incident is being further investigated and clarified.
