On the morning of December 4, the provincial Hydrometeorological Station said that heavy rain continued to cover the whole province, causing the water level of rivers to rise rapidly, many reservoirs had to operate and discharge water with large flows.
In the past 24 hours, the whole province has had moderate to heavy rain, many places have had very heavy rain. Rainfall is generally from 50120mm; some places recorded high rainfall including: Khanh Hiep 200.000mm, Son Thai 135mm, Da Nhim 134.4mm, Khanh Phu 129.4mm.
According to the meteorological agency, the water level on rivers in the province is fluctuating strongly and small floods have appeared.
On Cai Phan Rang River (Tan My Station), the water level is at alert level 12. Some stations such as Dong Trang (Cai Nha Trang river) recorded rapid water levels on the morning of December 4.
Regarding reservoirs, the total capacity of 64 lakes in the area reached 621.19 million m3, equivalent to 82.6% of the design. Many large lakes such as Da Ban, Suoi Dau, Song Cai, Song Sat, Song Trau have accumulated water at 7687% of their capacity.
Currently, reservoirs in the province are operating to regulate to ensure the safety of the project and downstream.
Southern area: Song Cai lake discharges 19.67 m3/s; Tra Co lake 103.78 m3/s; Tan Giang lake 156.59 m3/s.
Northern area: Hoa Son lake discharges 11.8 m3/s; Da Ban lake 7.6 m3/s; Suoi Dau lake 20.45 m3/s; Cam Ranh lake 15.2 m3/s; Ta Ruc lake 28.76 m3/s.
It is forecasted that during the day and night of December 4, Khanh Hoa will continue to be cloudy with moderate to heavy rain. Northern province: rainfall 2040mm, some places over 60mm. Southern province: 3050mm, locally over 90mm.
Floods on rivers are expected to continue to rise. The flood peak is likely to be at alert level 1; only Cai Phan Rang River (Tan My) and Cai Nha Trang River (Dien Phu) may exceed alert level 2.
Some water levels forecast until the morning of December 5: Dong Trang: 7m; Dien Phu: 5m; Tan My: 36.6m.
Areas at risk of flash floods and landslides include: Van Hung, Van Thang, Dai Lanh, Tay Ninh Hoa, Dong Ninh Hoa, Suoi Hiep, Cam Lam, Cam An, Suoi Cat, Bac Khanh Vinh, Tay Khanh Vinh, Trung Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Dong Khanh Son, Tay Khanh Son, Lam Son, Bac Ai, Ninh Son...
These are all areas with steep terrain, loose rocks and soil, and have recorded landslides in previous heavy rains.
In low-lying areas, urban areas and coastal areas, the risk of flooding is very high, including: Dien Khanh, Suoi Hiep, Dien Dien, Bac Nha Trang, central areas of Nha Trang, Tay Nha Trang, Nam Nha Trang, Phan Rang, Bao An, Ninh Phuoc, Phuoc Dinh, Phuoc Hau, Phuoc Huu, Thuan Nam, Cam Ranh...
The high tide tonight is expected to reach 1.7m at around-8:00 p.m., which could cause water surges and increase the risk of flooding in coastal areas.
