According to Lao Dong reporters' records, at 8:00 AM on July 9th, Hoang Ngoc Phach, Ngo Kim Tai, Nguyen Tat To streets (Le Chan ward), Van Cao, Nguyen Binh, Le Loi streets (Gia Vien ward)... were all flooded like rivers, with water as high as motorbike wheels, making it difficult for people to move during rush hours.
According to information from Hai Phong Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company, from about 5 am this morning, it started to rain in Hai Phong city. Heavy rain from 5:15 am to 7:30 am, the measured rainfall was 130 mm, water outside the river was 2.4 m. Widespread heavy rain has caused localized flooding on some roads.
Right when it started to rain, Hai Phong Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company pumped water at rainwater pumping stations: Ba Tong, Vinh Niem, May Den, Nam Song Cam, Thuong Ly, Trai Chuoi and Bach Dang underpass, Rao bridge underpass to strengthen drainage for the city. At the same time, officials and employees were assigned to be on duty at some points at risk of flooding to promptly handle arising situations.
Currently, the company deploys 100% of personnel to collect garbage at collection gates and manholes to allow water to recede quickly; open manhole covers at key locations to enhance drainage capacity; inspect and set up checkpoints at all flood hotspots. Along with that, operate pumping stations at maximum capacity; regulate and open tide-preventing culverts and spillways to discharge into rivers when tide levels begin to drop; clear flow at discharge gates, ditches and regulating lakes.
