On the afternoon of May 14, information from the Domestic Market Management and Development Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that on the afternoon of May 13, Market Management Team No. 5, Bac Ninh Provincial Market Management Department coordinated with Dai Lai Commune Police to conduct a surprise inspection of a business household in Phuong Trien village, Dai Lai commune, Gia Binh district, owned by Mr. Pham Van Quyet (born in 1985).
Through inspection, the authorities discovered a large quantity of prepackaged seaweed goods, with a total of 40,000 packages.
At the time of work, the owner could not present invoices or documents proving the origin of the entire shipment. At the same time, this business household also does not have a business registration certificate as prescribed.
The authorities have drawn up a record and temporarily detained all the violating goods to continue verifying and handling them in accordance with legal regulations.
A representative of Market Management Team No. 5 said that the trade of food of unknown origin has many potential risks affecting the health of consumers, especially products such as seaweed - commonly used in daily meals, especially for children and vegetarians.
Not only violating regulations on labels and packaging, lack of quality control can also cause food poisoning, accumulate harmful substances, and have long-term effects on health.
According to the Steering Committee 389 of Bac Ninh province, in 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 alone, the whole province discovered nearly 2,560 violations, including 270 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods; 152 cases of counterfeit goods and nearly 2,140 cases of trade fraud, with a total handling value of nearly 480 billion VND.
These figures show that the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and food safety violations is complicated, requiring the drastic participation of authorities and vigilance from consumers.
