On the morning of October 21, Dien Ban Dong Ward Police (Da Nang City) handed over a Central yellow-checked turtle (Cuora bourreti) to the Mobile Forest Ranger and Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Team No. 2, under the City Forest Ranger Department.
On the afternoon of October 20, Mr. Tran Cong Truong (temporarily residing in Dien Ban Dong ward) discovered a turtle weighing nearly 1kg near the boarding house. Realizing that this could be a rare wild animal, Mr. Truong proactively contacted and handed it over to the local police.


According to the authorities, the individual is a yellow-checked Turtle in the Central region, belonging to group IB - a list of endangered, precious, and rare wild animals with priority for protection, listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book.
This species is facing the risk of extinction due to illegal hunting, trading and loss of habitat.
After receiving the turtles, the Mobile Forest Ranger and Forest Fire Prevention Team No. 2 carried out the necessary procedures to release them back into the natural environment.
