On August 3, Mr. Vo Duc Dien - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Tung Commune, Quang Tri Province, said that the locality had just inspected and handled the dead pigs left in the Mui Treo beach area.
Previously, people discovered many sacks containing pig carcasses at Mui Treo beach (in Cua Tung commune). Due to the hot weather, the pigs' carcasses were decomposed, giving off a strong stench, causing serious environmental pollution and posing a potential risk of spreading the disease.
More worryingly, the African swine fever epidemic is currently complicated in many localities, causing great damage to livestock farmers if not controlled promptly.
Immediately after receiving the report, on August 3, the People's Committee of Cua Tung commune directed the authorities to inspect, collect and handle the pigs in accordance with regulations on disease prevention and control.
"Previously, the locality had promoted and instructed people on disease prevention measures for pigs, but the situation of dumping the above-mentioned pigs still occurred. The Commune People's Committee has requested Cua Tung Commune Police to investigate to clarify who threw away the pigs, and resolutely handle the unconscious act, causing harm to the community" - Mr. Vo Duc Dien said.
Currently, the authorities of Cua Tung commune and neighboring localities continue to step up propaganda, requiring livestock households to strictly comply with regulations on preventing and controlling African swine fever. Specialized forces are required to closely monitor the area, promptly detect and thoroughly handle the act of throwing dead animals into the environment.
