According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam - General Director of Transerco, putting 3 bus routes with a total of 46 electric buses (including 35 medium-sized buses and 11 small-sized buses) into operation is a premise for Transerco to implement the next steps in the vehicle conversion plan, contributing to the green transformation and digital transformation of the city.
To limit air pollution, the Hanoi People's Committee has implemented many solutions, in which the city is focusing on directing the development of a public passenger transport system using green energy, striving to have all Hanoi buses basically switch to using green or clean energy by 2030.
To accelerate the conversion of buses using green and clean energy according to the project, the Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the Department of Transport to continue to preside, coordinate, and advise the Hanoi People's Committee to soon submit to the Hanoi People's Council to issue mechanisms and policies to specify the policy of supporting businesses to invest in and convert vehicles using green and clean energy as well as invest in infrastructure systems and synchronous charging stations.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Thiet Lap - lecturer of the Department of Automobile Mechanics, Faculty of Mechanics, University of Transport - said that Hanoi City's deployment of electric buses to serve the people is very reasonable. In addition to reducing emissions into the environment, electric buses also bring comfort to passengers and convenience to drivers. Supporting drivers to reduce pressure when traveling on crowded streets, so after the pilot, Hanoi City needs to accelerate the development of electric buses according to the proposed policy.
“In inner-city areas, electric buses should be used instead of internal combustion engines to reduce environmental pollution,” said Dr. Nguyen Thiet Lap.
Previously, on January 8, at the conference to summarize production and business activities in 2024 and deploy the work plan for 2025 of Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco), Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen directed Transerco to have synchronous solutions, review routes, cut down and add bus routes, and implement green bus conversion according to the roadmap. Hanoi City aims to basically complete the conversion of buses using clean energy by 2030.
According to Mr. Quyen, Hanoi City has requested the Hanoi Development Investment Fund to support businesses in converting to electric buses. Accordingly, the fund must develop a set of documents, speed up procedures to be able to disburse early to the units, and at the same time assign the Department of Transport and Finance to complete the steps to submit to the People's Council in the nearest session this year. The spirit of green conversion is to prioritize switching to electric buses instead of using natural gas, in order to minimize emissions.
According to Dr. Khuong Kim Tao - former Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee, the implementation of 3 electric bus routes has brought many benefits to people, businesses and especially reduced emissions.
According to Mr. Tao, Hanoi needs to speed up the deployment of electric buses to replace fossil fuel buses. When the quality of buses is improved, environmental quality will be addressed, service quality will attract people to participate, and pollution and traffic congestion will be reduced.
“To implement green transportation, gradually replacing fossil fuel vehicles in the inner city (low emission zones) is inevitable. If we cannot develop 100% electric buses, we must use low emission vehicles,” emphasized Dr. Khuong Kim Tao.
