Modern transport infrastructure is needed to attract investment
Dung Quat Economic Zone operates in many sectors and fields, and is identified as the place where the national petrochemical and energy refining center is formed. It is a logistics center, a major service center of the province and the Central region. However, after 20 years of operation, transport infrastructure has not been invested in in a timely manner, leading to not being able to meet the development of this dynamic economic zone.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Hai - Deputy Director of PTSC Quang Ngai Port - said that in the coming time, the company is developing and expanding port No. 3. According to the plan, in September 2025, phase 2A will be put into operation, and phase 2B will be invested in to complete the investment policy of the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Parks of Quang Ngai province. However, the traffic infrastructure of route 24C with the Dong River bridge is currently very small, not enough to accommodate oversized and overweight equipment.
Currently, the area of Dung Quat port has formed, developed and put into use 7 systems of general ports capable of receiving ships with a load of 70,000 tons. The seaport system is very convenient for the development of Dung Quat Economic Zone, but the transport infrastructure connected to the port is the biggest concern of port business units and people in traffic. Small, degraded roads, not guaranteeing vehicles with large tonnage of goods, affecting the attraction of large investors.
According to Mr. Tran Van Man - Head of the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Parks of Quang Ngai province, the road system in Dung Quat Economic Zone is still congested at some points, with a narrow road section, so the connection to the port is very weak.
Unfinished intersections, connection opportunities flowing through every day
According to the reporter, National Highway 24C to Dung Quat Port is in a state of congestion for trucks and no parking lots, especially during the time of going out of the wood, vehicles stand in a row waiting to enter the port. Dung Quat Border Guard Station constantly reminds drivers to park in accordance with regulations, but it is very difficult for drivers to do so.
Mr. Nguyen Mai, Binh Thanh commune, Binh Son district lamented: The roads in Dung Quat Economic Zone are seriously degraded, people are looking forward to repairing and rebuilding the road to ensure traffic safety for people traveling.
Dung Quat Economic Zone is under great pressure on means of transport and transportation. However, the connection of traffic infrastructure in this area is continuously slow to be implemented. The Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection is the only intersection among the 8 intersections of the entire Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway project that is still unfinished and abandoned after 7 years of investment, causing huge waste.
According to Mr. Tran Van Man, the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection is under construction, so the connection of Dung Quat Economic Zone with the expressway is still limited. The province has also made many recommendations, but the progress of the Tri Binh - Dung Quat intersection project is still slow, leading to waste of opportunities and time in smoothing traffic for Dung Quat Economic Zone.
It is expected that Quang Ngai will spend 350 billion VND to upgrade traffic in Dung Quat Economic Zone in the period of 2024-2027. The medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025 has allocated 100 billion VND from land use fee revenue.
