Faced with the risk of storm No. 15 combined with high tides, Quang Ngai province is proactively implementing many response measures to ensure the safety of coastal residents.
In Tinh Khe commune, an area that suffered serious landslides after high tides and the recent circulation of storm No. 13, the police force, border guards and mechanical vehicles have supported people to temporarily reinforce them with sandbags at vulnerable locations. Many households have proactively reinforced the banks around their houses. Strong winds and big waves appear early, making the prevention work even more urgent. This locality has over 11,000 coastal households, which are at high risk of storms and rising waves.
People in An Ky village said that the previous high tide had damaged the embankment and caused the sea level to rise unusually, so they had to reinforce the embankment to protect their houses. An Vinh and An Ky villages have more than 4,000 people living near the sea, in very high-risk areas. Local authorities prioritize evacuation if strong storms directly affect them.
Tinh Khe commune has completed the move of all fishing boats and cages to safe shelters, and has prepared an evacuation plan in the flood center of Tra river. Border guards in Sa Ky are determined not to let ships depart, and require fishermen to leave their vehicles to ensure safety.
Quang Ngai province requires reviewing all response plans for storm No. 15, especially at areas at risk of landslides and deep flooding; fully preparing human resources and means to handle the situation. Specialized units are checking the slope, embankment, and traffic system to promptly detect and fix new landslides.
