According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper in early November, the landslide repair work on National Highway 12, from Km119 to Km122+200, to Muong Tung commune and Muong Lay ward is being repaired.
Currently, people passing through this area have to use the old National Highway 12 bypass. However, this route also causes many difficulties.

In reality, if taking a bypass, people will have to travel a distance of 4km, 1km longer than the main route (3km) under repair. The bypass road is now degraded, with many "potholes".
Ms. Lu Thi Hoa (Muong Lay ward), a resident who often travels here, said: "Having to take the bypass road also causes difficulties due to road degradation. But I also have to accept it, I just hope the main road will be fixed soon so I can travel".

Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of Road Joint Stock Company 226 (the road management unit) said that the company has focused on machinery and human resources to implement remedial measures at Km119+500.
"Currently, the basic repair work is almost complete, it is expected to be completed and reopened to traffic this week," the representative of the unit informed.

A representative of Road Joint Stock Company 226 added that at locations with potential traffic safety risks such as falling rocks, the unit has arranged warning signs to ensure the safety of the people.
Accordingly, during the heavy rain in late July and early August, at Km119+500 National Highway 12 (Muong Tung commune), a large amount of landslides, stretching for tens of meters, prevented vehicles from moving, and caused traffic to flow along the old road. At Km120, the phenomenon of rolling rocks and falling rocks also threatens the safety of people and vehicles.

Previously, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province issued many decisions on the development of emergency projects on natural disasters to respond to and overcome damage to road traffic infrastructure on national highways due to the impact of floods (including National Highway 12).
The Department of Construction of Dien Bien province was assigned as the investor, responsible for coordinating with relevant units to quickly implement the project, expected to be completed in 2025.
At the locations of negative slope landslides, the road shoulders are locally adjusted to avoid negative slope subsidence; re- fill and tightly draft (or) with stone cages with anchors combined with technical technical networks to reinforce negative slopes...
