Last weekend and during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year holiday, the number of spring tourists in the highlands of Tuyen Quang increased suddenly, causing most tourist destinations to fall into localized traffic jams stretching for many kilometers on National Highway 4.4C. This makes many tourists lose too much travel time, causing psychological fatigue.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang (Hanoi City) said that during a spring trip, he was stuck twice at curves on National Highway 4C section in Quan Ba commune. The waiting time each time was nearly 30 minutes.
Tractor trucks are heavily loaded, the body is long, so it is very difficult to move through sharp curves, many vehicles have to be pulled up by other vehicles, each time it takes a lot of time. Some sections of the road surface are very bad," Mr. Hoang shared.
In the Tham Ma slope area, a popular tourist attraction, it has fallen into a state of "failure" due to too many people and vehicles gathering at the same time. Cars and motorbikes parked along both sides of the road near this tourist spot, many vehicles parked occupying more than 1/3 of the road, making other vehicles unable to move.
Especially in the Tham Ma slope area, it took me nearly 2 hours to get through, passengers on the bus had to walk down to the sightseeing spot more than 1km away, and the bus was almost standing still on the spot. The road is narrow, there are too many bus stops, lacking convenient parking spots for tourists," said Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, a driver in Hung Yen province.
According to an officer of Pho Cao Commune Police on duty to divert traffic at Tham Ma slope, local congestion in this area occurs frequently, especially on weekends or holidays when the number of visitors increases.
If there is no police, grassroots order standing to divert traffic, regulate and guide tourists to park, it will be immediately blocked, this section of road is small, the curve is sharp, and the slope is steep, just one car going down the top of the slope, the cars behind cannot move," said an officer of Pho Cao Commune Police.
Recently, functional sectors of Tuyen Quang province have adjusted and supplemented parking spots at some key tourist attractions such as building parking lots about 100m away from the Tham Ma slope area. However, according to many tourists, due to unspecific instructions, long walking distance, lack of shuttle buses, very few vehicles choose to park at the parking lot and still continue straight to the tourist attractions, stopping and parking along the road, causing traffic jams.
For decades, National Highway 4C has been a vital route to communes in the Dong Van Karst Plateau region. Although it has been upgraded, the road surface is still narrow, many sections are damaged and not yet repaired; sharp curves and steep slopes cause localized congestion to occur frequently.
