On the afternoon of September 5, at Loc Thang irrigation lake (Bao Lam 1 commune), a drowning incident occurred, causing a tragic death of an 8th grade student.
According to initial information, at around 3:00 p.m. the same day, two students, Dang Van L and Chung Quang T (both in grade 8) studying at a secondary school in Bao Lam 1 commune, went to the Loc Thang irrigation lake dam to play. While playing on the dam, unfortunately both students slipped and fell into the irrigation lake.
At this time, Mr. K'Buys (33 years old, living in Bao Lam 1 commune) was riding a motorbike across the dam when he discovered the two students above-mentioned were adrift in the middle of deep water. Mr. K'Buys threw away his motorbike and immediately swam out into the middle of the lake to save a student named Dai Quang T and bring him safely to shore.
After that, Mr. K'Buys continued to swim to the middle of the lake to save the remaining student but failed.
The incident was reported by Mr. K'Buys and the people to the local authorities. Immediately afterwards, Mr. Trinh Van Thao - Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Lam 1 commune - directed the police and militia forces to the scene.
At the same time, the information was transferred to the Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Team of Area 3 (Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, Lam Dong Provincial Police). Upon receiving the report, the team mobilized more than 10 officers, soldiers and equipment to the scene to carry out rescue work.
At 6:15 p.m. the same day, after nearly 1 hour of searching, officers and soldiers of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Team of Area 3 found the body of Dang Van L right at the accident site at a depth of more than 5 meters under water and brought it safely to shore.
The authorities are completing the procedures to hand over the victim's body to the family for funeral arrangements.
Loc Thang Irrigation Reservoir (Bao Lam 1 Commune) has an area of dozens of hectares and an average water depth of 5 - 10 m, even in some places over 15 meters. Recently, the authorities of Bao Lam 1 commune have posted many warning signs of danger and banned bathing in many areas on Loc Thang irrigation lake to warn and prevent drowning.
