On the afternoon of July 19, Dat Moi Commune People's Committee, Ca Mau province said that in just two days, July 17 and 18, many riverbank landslides occurred in the area, causing damage to houses, roads and people's property.
According to the Ca Mau Provincial Office for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, in the early morning of July 18, two landslides occurred on the Trai Luoi River in Xeo Sao and Lam Hai hamlets. The first landslide collapsed a house with an area of about 25m2, with estimated damage of about 25 million VND. Only about 30 minutes later, another landslide lasting about 20m collapsed half of the 35m2 house, with damage of about 200 million VND. The remaining house is still in a dangerous area, with the risk of continuing to collapse.
Previously, on the morning of July 17, two landslides on the Cua Lon River, passing through Sa Pho hamlet, affected three households, swept away about 30m of rural traffic road and caused property damage of about 170 million VND.

Immediately after the incident occurred, Dat Moi Commune People's Committee implemented the "4 on-site" motto, mobilizing police, military and mass organizations to support people to relocate property, erect barriers in dangerous areas, reinforce houses and build temporary bridges for travel. The Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Office also assigned forces to coordinate on-site inspection and damage statistics to serve as a basis for supporting people according to regulations.
According to Mr. Truong Van Phuong - Deputy Head of the Ca Mau Provincial Irrigation Sub-Department, from the beginning of 2026 to now, natural disasters in the province have caused material damage of more than 26.68 billion VND. The whole province recorded 84 landslides with a total length of 2,282m, affecting 77 houses; of which riverside landslides accounted for 1,783m.
In addition to landslides, natural disasters also caused 2 deaths due to lightning strikes, 8 injuries; 404 houses were affected by thunderstorms. Unseasonal rain also caused damage of nearly 13 billion VND for more than 1,526ha of salt production and about 1.48 billion VND for 47.25ha of Artemia farming.
The Ca Mau Provincial Civil Defense Command proposed that localities continue to review areas at risk of landslides, proactively evacuate people when necessary, and at the same time strengthen propaganda to help people closely monitor weather developments, proactively prevent and avoid in order to limit damage during the rainy and storm season.
