After the historic storm and flood, what support do Yen Bai people need?

Currently, people affected by natural disasters in Yen Bai are in dire need of resource support to rebuild and restore production.

According to the Quick Report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Yen Bai province, as of the morning of September 13, the recent historic storm and flood left 50 people dead and missing, and 30 injured.

Regarding housing, 23,389 houses were damaged. Of these, 167 houses collapsed completely, 195 houses were severely damaged, 105 houses had to be urgently relocated, 1,173 houses were eroded, the slope was affected, 2,45 houses were flooded (currently the water has receded but people's property is severely damaged, mud and garbage are inundating the houses).

The floods also damaged and affected 4,946 hectares of crops; 117,774 livestock and poultry died; 400 hectares of traditional fish farming area were flooded and the banks broke...

Yen Bai Party Committees and authorities at all levels have focused on directing and mobilizing forces and means to go to the scene to search for victims of landslides and take injured victims to the emergency room; at the same time, providing temporary support to families with deceased people 25 million VND/person, families with injured people 5 million VND/person, families with completely collapsed houses 40 million VND/household, and severely damaged houses 20 million VND/household.

Currently, 163 completely collapsed houses have been relocated and temporarily housed with relatives. For 13,816 houses that had to relocate people and property, temporary housing has been arranged for households at cultural houses, commune People's Committee headquarters and interspersed with unaffected households.

With the spirit of mutual love of the people of the whole country, the Yen Bai Provincial Relief Mobilization Committee has received support and registered to donate from 133 groups and individuals with a total amount of nearly 23 billion VND; in-kind support from 81 groups, including: 2,070 mixed meals; 5,772 cartons of purified water; 4,372 cartons of milk; 8,213 cartons of instant noodles; 1,459 flashlights; 7 rescue boats; 11,608 instant breads; 112 cartons of boxed porridge; 2,460 life jackets; 1,802 raincoats...

“Up to now, basic necessities and essential goods have been provided to people affected by storms and floods. Now people are in dire need of resources to rebuild their homes, restore production (tools, machinery, seedlings), and business (debt deferral, capital),” said Mr. Dam Van Dat, Chief of Office Committee of the Fatherland Front of Yen Bai province.

In recent days, many relief vehicles have come to Yen Bai to support people in flooded areas.
