On August 27, the People's Committee of Hieu Giang commune (Quang Tri province) said that thunder had caused damage to a livestock household in the area.
Previously, at around 5:00 p.m. on August 26, when it was raining heavily with thunder, two buffaloes of Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's family (residing in An My village, Hieu Giang commune) were eating grass in the fields when they were suddenly hit by lightning and died on the spot.
Through inspection, one of the two buffaloes was pregnant, weighing about 370kg, the other child weighed about 300kg. The total damage is estimated at several tens of millions of VND.
Immediately after the incident, the Hieu Giang commune government sent officers to the scene to encourage the family and support bringing the buffalo home.
The local government also recommends that people should quickly move their livestock to safety when there is thunder and lightning to avoid similar unfortunate damage.
