Until 10 pm on March 7, functional forces and family members were still making efforts to search for the missing boy who was swept away by waves.
Previously, at about 11 am on March 7, baby boy N.Q. A (9 years old, residing in Dong Hai ward, Khanh Hoa province) and a friend brought life jackets to the reef area near Dong Hai embankment to swim.
While standing on the fishermen's wooden bridge and jumping into the sea, suddenly a large wave rushed in, knocking down the life jacket and sweeping baby A away.
The companion panicked and ran ashore to call for help from people around.
Upon receiving the news, functional forces quickly arrived at the scene to deploy search operations.
Participating units include the Fire and Rescue Police of Khanh Hoa Province, the 5th Naval Special Forces Brigade and many local fishermen.
However, due to the weather at sea with strong winds and big waves, the search encountered many difficulties. When it was dark, diving search work had to be temporarily suspended to ensure safety for the task force.
At about 8:30 pm on the same day, A's relatives and local people continued to use flashlights to search along the coastal area of Dong Hai ward. Along the shore, many piles of fire were lit in the anxiety and anticipation of the victim's family.
A resident living near the area said that in recent days the tide has risen, the sea waves are strong and dangerous. Previously, this person had seen child A go down to the sea to play, so he reminded her and asked her to go ashore. However, by noon of the same day, she still returned to this area.
According to forecasts, on the morning of March 8, functional forces will continue to expand the search area at sea and along the coast to search for missing victims.
