In recent days, unusual subsidence has continuously appeared in Sao Lam village, Thanh Son commune, Ninh Binh province, causing dozens of households to be constantly worried.
According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, many locations on the ground suddenly subsided, forming deep holes. Along with that, fences, house foundations of some households and traffic roads in residential areas appeared many long cracks.
At subsidence points, local authorities have cordoned off areas, stretched ropes, and planted warning signs to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Mr. Dinh Van Hai - Head of Sao Lam village said that the subsidence point directly affects 5 households and 6 adjacent households. The village management board has mobilized people to use crushed stone to temporarily fill subsidence holes on traffic roads to ensure traffic flow, and at the same time put up warning signs and reminded people, especially children, to stay absolutely away from dangerous areas.
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Long - Chairman of Thanh Son Commune People's Committee said that the subsidence phenomenon occurred in a densely populated area of Sao Lam village after heavy rains occurred in early June and early July 2026.
Specifically, after the rain on the night of June 4, early morning of June 5, 2 subsidence holes (diameter 1 - 2m, depth 1 - 1.5m) appeared right in the residential area and on the inter-village traffic route.
The situation continues to be complicated when on July 3, 4 and 5, 2026, there will continue to be heavy rain in the area. The old subsidence hole was eroded further, causing the fence of the people's house to collapse. In the garden of Mr. Hoang Van Tam's family (Sao Lam village), a new subsidence hole of about 2m wide and 0.8m deep also appeared. Through monitoring, this subsidence hole continues to expand with a radius of about 2.5m and 1.5m deep. At the same time, cracks in the walls at some people's houses also continue to spread, tearing along the house foundation and roads.
The Commune People's Committee has directed the Civil Defense Command to arrange forces to survey subsidence points and potential risk areas to zone off, stretch ropes, and minimize people's travel. We have directly mobilized and warned households in the affected area to proactively plan to relocate valuable assets in case of unexpected situations. At the same time, the Commune People's Committee has also consolidated forces and vehicles ready to support the relocation of people and people's property" - Mr. Long said.

Mr. Bui Xuan Dieu - Deputy Director of Ninh Binh Department of Agriculture and Environment said that the subsidence phenomenon in Sao Lam village may be related to complex geological and hydrological factors. Therefore, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is closely coordinating with relevant departments and branches to urgently summarize survey results and implement in-depth measurement and assessment steps to accurately determine the cause.
Based on professional conclusions, the Department will promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee on the most fundamental, appropriate and effective handling plan, ensuring maximum safety for people's lives and property" - Mr. Dieu shared.
