On February 24, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT - Ministry of Public Security) said that on February 23 - the first working day after the Tet holiday, traffic police forces nationwide simultaneously launched a campaign to control alcohol concentration under the direction of the Director of the Traffic Police Department, focusing on two peak hours: 10:00-14:00 and 7:00-23:00.
Accordingly, traffic police in 34/34 localities have controlled more than 64,000 vehicle trips. Through inspection, functional forces discovered 2,111 cases of alcohol concentration violations, mainly motorbike drivers. All related vehicles were temporarily seized according to regulations, and hundreds of driver's licenses were also revoked.
In addition to violations related to alcohol and beer, many other violations related to traffic conditions were also detected such as not having a driver's license, not registering a vehicle, or vehicles not meeting technical requirements. This shows that after long holidays, a part of traffic participants still have a subjective mentality and do not fully comply with legal regulations.
During the two peak hours of control deployment, no traffic accidents related to alcohol concentration occurred. According to functional agencies, this result directly reflects the effectiveness of thematic inspection, when vehicle drivers are forced to change their behavior right from the time they go out.
In Hanoi alone, according to statistics, on February 23, road traffic police units under the Hanoi Traffic Police Department controlled 9,172 cases, detected and handled 217 cases of alcohol concentration violations, and fined 1.136 billion VND. From 7 am on February 23 to 7 am on February 24, no serious traffic accidents occurred throughout the city; recorded 2 traffic accidents injuring 2 people.
Notably, at 9:55 pm on February 23, on Thach Ban street (Long Bien ward, Hanoi), the task force discovered Mr. N.V.D (born in 1990, residing in Bac Ninh province) driving a technology taxi with license plate 99H-051xx violating the alcohol concentration at 0.339 mg/liter of breath. Notably, at this time, the car was carrying women and young children. Through working, the driver admitted to having used alcohol before.
The working group made a record of handling Mr. D according to regulations; and at the same time requested to arrange other vehicles to ensure safety for passengers. According to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, drivers of cars violating alcohol concentration exceeding 0.25 mg/liter of breath to below 0.4 mg/liter of breath will be fined from 18-20 million VND and deducted 10 points from the driver's license.

The Traffic Police Department believes that maintaining alcohol concentration control right from the first working day after Tet is of great preventive significance, because this is the period when the risk of accidents increases due to the habit of using alcohol during holidays.
In the coming time, the topic will continue to be implemented regularly, at fixed and unscheduled times, in order to form the habit of "drinking alcohol and not driving" sustainably in society.
