On March 7, Ly Son Border Guard Station (Quang Ngai Border Guard Command) said that the unit had received information about the incident involving two fishing vessels HT 90409 TS and HT 90019 TS that ran aground and had missing crew members.
At about 2:30 a.m. on March 7, Mr. Mai Xuan Quynh (born in 1980, residing in Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province, owner and captain of fishing boat HT 90409 TS) went to An Vinh Border Control Station - Ly Son Border Guard Station to present the content of fishing boat HT 90409 TS that ran aground and had missing crew members.
Fishing boat HT 90409 TS with a capacity of 495 CV, length of 15.40m, departed at 1:00 p.m. on March 6 at Tinh Ky Border Control Station to fish, with 4 crew members on board.
During the move, avoiding the wind until about 5:30 p.m. on March 6, at the coordinates 15°22′N - 109°05′E, the fishing boat ran aground, about 200m from the shore of Ly Son Island.
Immediately afterwards, captain Mai Xuan Quynh - owner of fishing boat HT 90409 TS contacted fishing boat HT 90019 TS owned and captained by Mr. Mai Xuan Mien (born in 1977, residing in Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province) to to towing and rescuing fishing boat HT 90409 TS.
At 8:30 p.m. the same day, due to large waves, both fishing boats were stranded in the area. After that, all crew members on the 2 boats (8 people) left the boat and swam to shore.
At around 2:00 a.m. on March 7, 7 crew members had swam to shore safely, while Mr. Mai Xuan Mien, captain of fishing boat HT 90019 TS, was missing.
It is known that fishing boat HT 90019 TS left the boat at 9:00 a.m. on February 22 at An Hai Border Control Station - Ly Son Border Guard Station to trap, with 4 crew members on board.
The leader of Ly Son Border Guard Station said that as soon as he received the information and the crew members, the Station conducted a search for the crew members to swim to shore. As for a missing fisherman, the Station is currently coordinating with local authorities to continue searching for the victim.
However, due to the impact of bad weather, Ly Son sea area is currently quite rough, leading to many difficulties in searching for missing victims.
