The Ministry of Construction has just sent a document to Vietnam Railway Corporation, agreeing with the proposal to restore the operation of the international passenger train pair with registration numbers T8701/MR2 and T8702/MR1 on the Gia Lam - Nam Ninh railway line, through the Dong Dang (Vietnam) - Bang Tuong border gate (China).
The restoration of conveyor passenger ships will be carried out on the basis of full compliance with current legal regulations and international treaties to which Vietnam is a member, while ensuring security and safety of train operations.
Vietnam Railway Corporation is responsible for reporting to the governing body, and proactively discussing and agreeing with the Chinese side to implement the plan.
Previously, the operation of the Vietnam - China conveyor ship was temporarily suspended from February 5, 2020 to prevent the COVID-19 epidemic. After the epidemic was controlled in both countries, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed that China restore international passenger transport by rail, in order to meet the travel and trade needs of people and businesses on both sides.
On May 13, 2025, Vietnam Railway Corporation and the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone negotiated with the People's Government Delegation of Bang Tuong Town (Wangxi, China). The two sides agreed on technical conditions and expected time to restore the operation of the 1,435mm gauge passenger train passing through Dong Dang - Bang Tuong border gate, starting from May 25, 2025.
Vietnam Railway Corporation said it has completed the review, inspection and supplementation of infrastructure, human resources, and train travel from Dong Dang Station to Gia Lam Station, ready for the resumption of the Vietnam - China international passenger train pair.
