On the afternoon of January 12, Mr. Huynh Thanh Quoc Viet - Chairman of Phuoc Hoi Ward People's Committee (Lam Dong province) confirmed that on the same morning, a ship of the La Gi port gate dredging construction unit sank after being launched in the port area.
The ship in distress is Khanh Giang 14 ship with registration number CT.10493, 28m long, weighing 18.6 tons...
Previously, on January 10, the construction unit of the La Gi port gate dredging project brought ships and specialized equipment to the port area of Phuoc Hoi ward to prepare for construction deployment.

The appearance of dredging vessels makes many local fishermen expect it, because for nearly 2 years, the gate of La Gi port has been seriously silted up. This causes fishing vessels to encounter many risks when entering and leaving, especially in conditions of strong waves and winds.
According to the report of Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station on the incident, La Gi Border Guard Station worked with the vehicle representative, Mr. D.D.L (born 1979) on January 10.
After checking the documents, Mr. L did not provide complete documents, procedures for vehicles, implementation plans, people and documents related to the La Gi estuary dredging project.
The station has requested Mr. L to sign a vehicle parking commitment and be responsible for ensuring safety, not yet operating.
However, by the afternoon of October 11, Mr. L arbitrarily lowered the ship from the shore into the water to anchor. By 7 am on January 12, the ship sank, with estimated damage of about 1 billion VND.
The incident has affected the dredging progress of La Gi port, while the need to clear channels and ensure maritime safety in this area is very urgent.

At noon on January 12, cranes and workers were salvaging the sunken ship to fix it and carry out dredging as soon as possible.
According to Phuoc Hoi Ward People's Committee, the La Gi port gate channel dredging project is invested by the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province.

In addition to dredging, functional agencies are also conducting surveys and re-evaluating the embankment design at the port gate.
Currently, the two embankments at the port gate are the same length, while reality shows that when there are strong waves and strong currents, ships entering and leaving are often strongly affected, posing a potential risk of accidents.
Recently, fishing boat sinking incidents have continuously occurred at La Gi port gate. As Lao Dong newspaper reported, on the afternoon of January 9, a small-capacity fishing boat sank while entering the port. On the evening of January 2, another fishing boat was sunk by large waves at the port gate, causing one crew member to go missing and then the body was found.

The continuous incidents further show that the early dredging, embellishment of channels and re-study of the structure of La Gi port gate is an urgent requirement. Thereby, to ensure the safety of fishermen's lives and aquatic exploitation activities in the area.
