Thai Nguyen issues level 1 natural disaster warning, risk of landslides and flooding

Thai Nguyen - Thai Nguyen Provincial Hydrometeorological Station has just issued a level 1 disaster risk warning bulletin due to heavy rain in the area.

According to forecasts, from the evening of June 8 to the afternoon of June 9, many localities in the province will experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with locally very heavy rain over 120mm.

In the past 24 hours, Thai Nguyen province area has had rain, showers and scattered thunderstorms, with moderate rain in some places, common rainfall of 10 - 40mm.

In the next 24 to 48 hours, the weather will be more complicated. Forecast from the evening of June 8 to the afternoon of June 9, the whole province will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 40 - 100mm; some places may experience very heavy rain over 120mm.

From the night of June 9 to June 10, rain will gradually decrease, the main areas will still have showers and thunderstorms in some places.

Dinh Hoa, Vo Nhai, Phu Luong, Dai Tu areas and many northern areas of the province have common rainfall from 50 - 100mm. Dong Hy, Phu Binh areas, Phan Dinh Phung, Song Cong and Pho Yen wards have rainfall from 40 - 80mm.

The Provincial Hydrometeorological Station warns of a high risk of landslides, especially in areas with steep terrain, accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Heavy rain can also overload the urban drainage system, causing flooding in residential areas and traffic jams due to road flooding.

Thai Nguyen Provincial Hydrometeorological Station recommends that people, local authorities and functional units proactively monitor weather developments closely; review areas at risk of landslides and flooding; prepare response plans to limit damage.
