On June 30, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee signed a decision to award certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 22 individuals for their outstanding achievements in directing, mobilizing forces, vehicles and participating in organizing firefighting and extinguishing complex forest fires occurring in Hai Binh, Truc Lam and Dao Duy Tu wards.
The commended collectives include the Military Command of Thanh Hoa province; Fire and Rescue Police Department of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police; fire fighting and rescue teams of area 2, area 8; Border Guard Command of Nghi Son port; Defense Command of area 5 - Tinh Gia; Regiment 762; Military Command of Hai Binh, Dao Duy Tu, Truc Lam wards and Nghi Son town Forest Protection Department.
Among the 22 individuals awarded certificates of merit, there are many officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Fighting & Rescue Police, military, border guard, and forest ranger forces - people who directly stayed at the scene, participated in commanding, zoning, extinguishing fires and preventing fire from spreading in hot weather conditions and complex terrain.
Previously, on June 24 and 25, large forest fires occurred continuously in Hai Binh, Truc Lam and Dao Duy Tu wards, with complicated developments. The fire appeared during prolonged hot weather, with many forest areas at very high fire warning levels.
In particular, the fire points are located near residential areas, high-voltage power lines, substations and many key projects in the Nghi Son area. At one point, the fire in the area bordering Truc Lam - Dao Duy Tu affected the 110kV Tinh Gia 2 substation, forcing the electricity industry to temporarily cut off power to ensure safety.
At the scene, forces divided into many prongs to approach, cordon off areas, create firebreaks, extinguish each fire point, and at the same time use unmanned aerial vehicles to observe the development direction of the fire, supporting command work. Many officers and soldiers had to stick to the forest overnight, extinguish charcoal, and handle fire embers under trees to prevent the risk of fire reignition.
According to records, the fire in the forest area of Hai Binh ward affected more than 1.5 hectares of forest. Meanwhile, the fire in the area bordering Truc Lam - Dao Duy Tu was controlled and zoned by functional forces on June 24.
