Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No. 1673/QD-TTg, adding the Cho Moi - Bac Kan and Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressways to the list of important national projects, key projects of the Transport sector, and at the same time completing the State Steering Committee for these projects.
The addition of the two above projects is expected to create strong development momentum for the Northern midlands and mountainous areas, in which Thai Nguyen and Cao Bang will benefit greatly.
The new expressways will help connect localities in the province faster, especially the northern region (formerly in the Kan Kan), while strengthening connections with Cao Bang and the border area of China.
The routes not only shorten the time for transporting goods and passengers but also expand development space, attract investment, enhance the regional center position of Cao Bang and Thai Nguyen and reduce the load on National Highway 3.
The Bac Kan - Cao Bang Expressway is about 87.3 km long, of which 58.75 km passes through Bac Kan (now Thai Nguyen) and 28.55 km passes through Cao Bang. The starting point is in Bac Kan ward (Bac Kan ward, Thai Nguyen), the end point is in Thuc Phan ward (Cao Bang province).
The route is designed with 4 lanes, maximum speed of 80 km/h, road surface of 20.5 m wide, with many bridges, tunnels and intersections.
The total estimated investment is nearly VND 29,893 billion, of which the section through Cao Bang is about VND 11,357 billion and the section through Bac Kan is about VND 18,536 billion.
