Cai San canal passing through Vinh Thanh district (Can Tho city) is over 25km long, and in recent years, many sections have experienced serious landslides. Especially in Vinh Trinh commune, the canal bank was eroded for over 5km, with many serious landslides.

The Cai San canal emergency embankment project (the northern bank of Cai San canal, the section from the border of An Giang province to Duong Xuong canal) was issued an order by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City on October 30, 2024, assigning the City Irrigation Department as the investor.

The project has a total investment of nearly 86 billion VND, starting on November 11, 2024, with a construction period of 360 days. Including main items such as reinforced concrete embankment walls, road behind embankment, traffic bridges and sidewalks.

Up to now, items such as deposit payment (reaching 790/930 deposits), sandbag release (70%) and bridge construction (70%) have been completed. The project has completed more than 52% of the work volume, which is far exceeding the set plan.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Viet - Head of the Can Tho City Irrigation Department - said that through supervision, the construction is of guaranteed quality, in accordance with current design and standards, and the progress is on schedule. In the near future, the construction of completed piles, technical tarpaulins, stone carpets to reinforce the riverbank and overpass and traffic bridge items will be carried out.

Due to the urgent nature of the project, it is necessary to complete it quickly to prevent landslides and protect the property and houses of people living along Cai San canal, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He requested the investor and related units to enhance their sense of responsibility, assign specific tasks to each individual, regularly review, urge, inspect, and coordinate well with units and localities to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles to speed up the implementation progress.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City requested the construction unit to review the progress of each project item, focus on human resources, machinery, and materials to speed up the construction progress, shorten the construction time to about 3 months to soon put the project into operation to serve the people.
