On August 15, Environment and Life Magazine organized the Forum "Dveloping the private economy associated with green growth and protecting the environment sustainably". The event took place in the context of the Politburo's recent issuance of Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW, continuing to affirm the important driving force role of the private economy.
In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Editor-in-Chief of Environment and Life Magazine - emphasized that the private economic development policy has been consistently affirmed by the Party and State from Resolution 10-NQ/TW to Resolution 68-NQ/TW. In the new context, when Vietnam is implementing the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, harmoniously combining private economic development and environmental protection is not only an urgent requirement but also an opportunity for businesses to create sustainable competitive advantages.
Green business models, circular economy, clean energy... are opening a new direction, not only for economic benefits but also for social responsibility and the future of future generations, Mr. Toan affirmed.
Sharing the same view, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An - Director of the Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Community Development - said that green growth is an inevitable trend and is the key for the Vietnamese private economy to improve competitiveness, meeting increasingly strict international standards.
Enterprises need to proactively invest in clean technology, effectively manage resources, and participate more deeply in the global value chain towards sustainability, Ms. An suggested.
From the perspective of an international expert, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai - GIZ Senior Economist - pointed out the trend of dual transformation (combining green transformation and digital transformation) that is reshaping the global economy. According to him, the private economy is the foundation of the market economy, so it needs to be supported by a clear and breakthrough policy framework.
Citing experience from the EU with the 750 billion Euro Green Agreement package or China with a continuously updated credit and green bond portfolio, Dr. Hai proposed 3 key solutions for Vietnam. First, promptly issue a legal framework on green growth in accordance with international practices. Second, develop national key programs with specific green finance mobilization plans. Finally, diversify preferential policies, especially prioritizing access to capital, credit and green bonds for private enterprises with typical green projects.
Many delegates highly appreciated the forum as an important bridge between policy-making agencies and business practices. The presentations focused on in-depth discussions on problems in the green transformation process, solutions for applying the circular economy and the role of public-private partnership in environmental protection.
