On July 22, information from Ban Ve Hydropower Company said that the unit will conduct regulatory discharge from 4:00 p.m. on July 22 after receiving the Flood Reduction Operation Order No. 121/BCH-PCTT from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Nghe An province.
According to the plan, the total flow discharged downstream (including the flow through the generator and through the spillway) ranges from 300 m3/s to 1,600 m3/s, depending on the actual amount of floodwater to the lake. This is a measure to lower the water level of reservoirs, thereby proactively responding to continued floods in the area.
Previously, Nghe An Province Hydrometeorological Station issued bulletin No. 03/DNA, warning of heavy rainfall in the entire Nam Non River basin from the night of July 21 to the morning of July 22, generally from 50100mm, in some places over 100mm such as Ban Mon (103.4mm), Tham Tham (104mm). The water flow to Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir was measured at peak times to 1,062 m3/s and is forecast to continue to increase, possibly reaching 3,000 m3/s in the next 24 hours.
Ban Ve Hydropower Company said it will continue to closely monitor weather developments and flood flows to the reservoir to adjust the appropriate discharge regime, while closely coordinating with authorities in natural disaster prevention.
Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir has a water surface area of over 5,000 hectares, with a total capacity of up to 1.83 billion m3. To ensure accurate and timely water source monitoring, since 2018, Ban Ve Hydropower Company has deployed the installation of 13 automatic rain monitoring stations around the plant area and the reservoir.
The company also proactively collects data from 22 hydrometeorological monitoring stations in Laos - the leading country, thereby forming a comprehensive information system, effectively serving the operation of reservoirs, ensuring the safety of works and minimizing damage caused by floods to downstream areas.
