Urgent restoration of relics
According to the History of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, in the early 1960s, the Politburo of the Central Party Executive Committee decided to open a route to transport weapons to the South by sea. In 1961, the General Command decided to establish Group 759 (including soldiers from the newly deployed South and some Southern cadres gathered in the North) with the task of purchasing vehicles and transporting supplies to the Southern battlefield.
On the night of April 8, 1962, Group 759 (later renamed 125) of the Vietnam People's Navy conducted a reconnaissance trip to the South safely. On the night of October 11, 1962, the Phuong Dong 1 ship departed from K15 wharf and arrived at Vam Lung - Ca Mau wharf safely after 6 days of drifting at sea. The first sea transportation of weapons was successful. Traffic routes along the North-South coast have been opened.
From there, at Wharf K15, the "numberless ships" continued to leave the wharf, carrying a large number of weapons and equipment to support the battlefield, even in places where the road had not yet reached. Up to now, Wharf K15 is a famous red address, welcoming about 8,000 visitors from inside and outside the city each year to visit and learn about the history of the Unknown Ship Wharf.
Over time, the K15 Wharf relic has increasingly deteriorated. Therefore, the Hai Phong City People's Council decided to approve the Investment Project for the construction, restoration and embellishment of Ben K15 relic complex. Accordingly, the city invested in the construction and restoration of the entire K15 wharf relic site on an area of 2.28 hectares, including the main items: Temple of Heroes and Martyrs, bridge combined with releasing flower lanterns, simulated ship combined with the life-saving ceremony of the soldiers of the Unnumbered Ship Company; General Vo Nguyen Giap's portrait with the Navy; square yard, entrance to the relic and other auxiliary works. The total investment of the project is 234.539 billion VND, implemented from 2021-2026.
Disbursement progress reaches nearly 25%
The project started construction in early 2025. On April 9, 2025, Do Son district (formerly known as July 1) organized the handover of the site to implement the project. Currently, the Project Management Board is coordinating with relevant parties to clean up and demolish to hand over the clean site to the construction contractor. Currently, the construction contractor has approached the site and is implementing organic excavation and forcing of steel truss piles; Geotube construction; sand filling phase 1; casting of precast retaining wall components; pouring concrete for precast retaining part; casting of BTCT 45x45 trial piles; and construction of construction of precast retaining wall components...
Regarding the design of construction drawings and project for the Reliefs of General Vo Nguyen Giap to the Navy and Unnumbered Ship Simulation and soldiers, the Project Management Board has issued Document No. 10/TTr-BQL dated March 25, 2025 reporting to the City People's Committee to approve the sketch as a basis for implementation.
According to the report of Hai Phong City People's Committee, by the end of June 2025, the project will disburse VND 46.437 billion, reaching about 24.77% of the allocated capital. Due to the nature of the construction site located in a tourist area and the small area, adjacent to the sea, the construction work depends largely on the daily tidal water level. Currently, contractors are focusing on human and material resources to ensure the project's progress, striving to complete and put the project into use in 2026 according to the plan, meeting the needs of sightseeing and learning about the history of the people and tourists.
