Focus on infrastructure development
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Tu - Vice Chairman of Lak District People's Committee, the whole district has more than 19,000 households with over 78,254 people.
According to poverty standards for the period 2022 - 2025, the whole district has 5,539 poor households with 24,065 people. The total number of near-poor households is 3,163 households with 13,276 people.
Most poor and near-poor households are ethnic minorities and mountainous people with little productive land, unstable income, and no stable jobs.
To reduce poverty and improve economic life, Lak district organizes integration and promotes the implementation of national target programs, especially vocational training and job creation projects.
Regarding this, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lak district has organized vocational training for many rural and mountainous workers. Accordingly, in 2021, 1 vocational training class was opened for 32 students; in 2022, 9 classes were opened with 310 students; in the first 6 months of 2023, 8 training classes were opened for 195 students.
Vocational classes such as civil construction electricity, animal husbandry, coffee planting and care, and cooking techniques have attracted a large number of ethnic minority students to participate. Under the enthusiastic guidance of teachers, workers have gained more knowledge and desire to find job opportunities for themselves.
Lak district also coordinated with companies inside and outside the province to organize 12 job fairs in 11 communes and towns, supporting labor export for 33 people, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction.
The district also pays attention to training to improve the qualifications of key staff of communes, villages and hamlets. From there, cadres go to the grassroots to guide, propagate, support people in doing business, and raise awareness of economic development.
In particular, for many years, the People's Committee of Lak district has always paid attention to developing the transport infrastructure system, especially in communes, villages and hamlets with special difficulties. Thanks to the synchronous road system, trading activities, agricultural product transportation and production capacity of the people have been improved.
Up to now, 90% of communes in Lak district have asphalted or concreted roads to the commune center. 70% of villages and hamlets have hardened village roads...
Lak district is making efforts to build small irrigation works to meet up to 80% of the irrigation needs for the annual crop area of the people.
Determined not to let people fall back into poverty
Next to the lush green coffee plantation, Ms. H'Niem Lieng (residing in Lak district) shared: "Thanks to the water flowing from the dam and learning coffee care techniques, my family has renovated the mixed garden to increase coffee and crop productivity."
The land with water becomes fertile, the coffee trees yield high yields, and the market price is good like this year, so the lives of many households are stable.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lak district - assessed that the national target program has covered the entire economic and social life, contributing to changing the face of the new countryside.
Transport infrastructure and social security policies reach every household, every poor and disadvantaged group to help them escape backward customs and weak and stagnant agricultural practices.
According to Mr. Chien, vocational training is still the main "strategy" to help people have stable jobs and increase their income. Obviously, with skills and qualifications, workers will always be hired at a good price and with more attractive salaries.
The district is determined not to let a part of the population fall back into poverty. This is mainly due to objective reasons such as climate change affecting crop productivity and quality of harvested products.
