At noon on October 20, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Xinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of An Bien Commune (An Giang) said that local authorities are urgently searching for a 4-month-old baby suspected of falling into Xeo Ro canal, in Hamlet 2, An Bien Commune.
According to initial information, at around 6:30 a.m. on October 20, Ms. L.T.K (26 years old, living in Hamlet 2, An Bien Commune) woke up and did not see her 4-month-old son, and searched around the house and could not see him. Ms. K reported to An Bien Commune Police for support in the search.
Because Ms. K's family's house is a stilt house, built along the Xeo Ro canal, it is suspected that the boy may have fallen into the canal. An Bien Commune Police coordinated with the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of U Minh Thuong area to mobilize divers and specialized vehicles to urgently deploy the search.
According to the authorities, the search was difficult, because the area where the incident occurred was located right at the river intersection, the water flow was strong, while the child was still too young, so the search and rescue work was difficult.
Mr. Xinh said that the commune had sent a Vice Chairman to the scene to direct and encourage the family.
The incident is still being verified and clarified by the authorities.
