On the morning of February 7, a man was collecting scrap metal along the beach when he discovered a male body drifting to the Phan Thiet port embankment in Binh Hung ward, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province. The incident was reported to the local police who arrived at the scene.
Through identification, the victim was identified as Truong Quang T. (born in 2000, residing in Ho Chi Minh City), a tourist who was swimming at Doi Duong beach and was swept away by waves since noon on February 5. The location of discovery was about 700m from where the victim went missing.

Phan Thiet City Police Investigation Agency arrived at the scene. The family requested not to conduct an autopsy, so the police completed the procedures to hand over the victim's body to the family for funeral arrangements.
As Lao Dong reported, at noon on February 5, a group of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City came to Phan Thiet for a vacation. While swimming at Doi Duong beach, two people drowned: Nguyen Xuan L. (born in 2005) and Truong Quang T. (born in 2000). Locals promptly discovered and rescued Mr. L. to shore, in stable health.

The remaining victim, T, was swept away by the waves and went missing. Authorities searched for the victim at sea and along the coast but to no avail. The body was found on the morning of February 7.
