The Beltway 3 project through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 47km long, including an elevated road section of more than 13km through Thu Duc City.
Designed with 4 lanes in the first phase, this section connects from Nhon Trach Bridge (Dong Nai), crosses Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and ends at Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong).
The elevated road construction option was chosen to adapt to the complex terrain, while saving land area and minimizing site clearance costs, as only a 63m wide clearance area is needed instead of a larger area if a ground road is built.
This elevated road also extends to Tan Van intersection connecting with ICD Long Binh port - the future logistics center area, creating convenience for traffic and operational safety.
According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City, this elevated road section is divided into 5 main bidding packages.
Currently, the XL3 package, which started construction in June 2023, has completed 34.11% of the work volume.
The remaining packages, which started construction in January 2024, are also being accelerated with different completion levels: XL1 reached 14.67%, XL2 reached 13.96%, and XL4 and XL5 both reached 10.3%.
In early November, hundreds of engineers and workers focused on constructing the foundation, pedestal, and pier of the viaduct.
At the construction site, the shape of dozens of viaduct piers has been determined, and the installation of girders is also taking place continuously. As observed from above, the direction and route of Ring Road 3 through Thu Duc City are gradually becoming clear.
Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has just directed to strive to complete and open the elevated road section through Thu Duc City to traffic on January 30, 2026.
To achieve this goal, the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is required to direct construction units to increase human resources, machinery and equipment, and add more construction teams to speed up progress.
The 76km-long Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project passes through Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Long An and Dong Nai with a total investment of more than VND75,378 billion, including construction and site clearance costs.
In addition to the section through Thu Duc City, which has a determined opening date, other sections of Ring Road 3 also have specific completion dates.
According to plan, by April 30, 2025, the section from Nhon Trach bridge to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway will be completed and put into operation.
In December 2025, the expressway section through Long An, from Kenh Thay Thuoc bridge to Ben Luc intersection will be open to traffic.
By April 30, 2026, the sections of Ring Road 3 through Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi districts (HCMC) will be open to traffic along with the sections through Dong Nai and Binh Duong.
In December 2026, the entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 expressway will be officially completed and open to traffic.
