The information is stated in the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the implementation of important national projects in the field of transportation in the city.
According to the Department of Construction, among the 6 priority metro lines invested in the 2026 - 2030 period according to Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated January 10, 2026 of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, 3 lines have been started or grounded so far.
Three routes have started construction, groundbreaking
Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section) has a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, started on January 15, 2026. The line is nearly 11.3 km long, of which more than 9 km is underground, the rest is elevated roads and access roads to depots.
Currently, the investor, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), in coordination with the EPC general contractor, is surveying, detailed designing, developing a traffic organization plan and deploying the construction of stations from the end of March 2026. The project aims to complete and put into operation before 2030.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line, nearly 54 km long, with a total investment of more than 102,43 billion VND (excluding about 13,000 billion VND of site clearance costs paid by the budget), was started on December 19, 2025.
The project is invested by VinSpeed (under Vingroup) in the form of BOO (build - own - operate). The city is implementing compensation and site clearance, striving to hand over in November 2026. The investor is expected to start construction in 2026 and put it into operation in 2028.

Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section) is about 6.2 km long, with a total capital of more than 36,700 billion VND, started on April 29, 2026 in the form of BT invested by Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company (under THACO Group). The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2030.
4 metro lines expected to start construction in 2026
In addition to the projects that have been implemented, Ho Chi Minh City plans to start construction of 4 more metro lines in 2026.
The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is about 42 km long, designed with double tracks, gauge 1.435 mm, speed 120 km/h, including 20 stations (16 elevated stations and 4 underground stations).
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council have approved a resolution unanimously assigning the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the project in the form of PPP.
Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC to prepare a feasibility study report under the BT contract. The project strives to start construction before June 30, 2026 and complete it in 2030.
Metro Line No. 6 phase 1 (Tan Son Nhat International Airport - Phu Huu) is being prepared for feasibility study report by MAUR (early report has been made), expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2030.

Urban railway line No. 1 (Binh Duong New City - Suoi Tien) is 31.6 km long, entirely elevated. The line starts from the central station of Binh Duong New City and ends at Suoi Tien Bus Station - the station of Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).
Currently, MAUR is presiding over the organization of research and preparation of feasibility study reports for project construction investment (early report has been made); expected to start construction in 2026 and complete in 2030.

In addition to 6 lines in the priority investment list for the 2026 - 2030 period, there is also urban railway line No. 2 (Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City) being studied by MAUR, preparing a feasibility study report for project construction investment (early-term report has been implemented). Strive to start the project in 2026 (at the latest in early 2027), complete in 2032.
This line is about 24.2 km long, connecting from station S5 of line No. 1 (Binh Duong ward) to Hiep Binh station of Metro line No. 3 (Hiep Binh Phuoc - An Ha) belonging to Hiep Binh ward.
