Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai start construction of 2 metro lines connecting Long Thanh airport in 2026

Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai have just agreed to deploy two metro lines directly connecting Long Thanh airport, preparing to start construction in 2026.

The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just announced the conclusion at the working session between leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and leaders of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee on the results of implementing the tasks of the Traffic Connection Task Force between the two localities.

Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai agreed to implement two important railway projects: Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line and the project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line to the Dong Nai Provincial Administrative Center, connecting Long Thanh International Airport.

Currently, relevant units are preparing a Feasibility Study Report and preparing to start construction in 2026. The two localities agreed on the investment allocation plan and site clearance costs.

Leaders of the two localities highly appreciated the achieved results, and at the same time emphasized that some projects are still behind schedule due to procedural obstacles and site clearance, which need to be focused on removing in the coming time.

Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has issued Official Dispatch No. 2175/UBND-DA dated March 20, 2026, assigning Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company to organize research and prepare a feasibility study report for the project. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction is assigned to coordinate, support and urge the company to comply with regulations.

For the section of about 30 km long passing through Dong Nai province, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee will report to the Provincial Party Committee to agree on the policy and deploy compensation, support, and resettlement work.

The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is about 42 km long, designed with a double track gauge of 1.435 mm, maximum speed of 120 km/h.

The entire route is expected to have 20 stations, including 16 elevated stations and 4 underground stations, with a preliminary total investment of about 84,753 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City sets a target to start construction of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route before June 30, 2026 and complete it in 2030.

Extending the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line to Long Thanh airport

The two localities agreed on the starting point of the route connecting at Suoi Tien station (in front of the new Mien Dong Bus Station), the ending point at Long Thanh International Airport.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction to coordinate with the Urban Railway Management Board and Urban Railway Company No. 1 Limited to provide complete technical documents for the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line to Dong Nai, ensuring synchronous connection. Completion time before April 10, 2026.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction coordinates with the Department of Finance to advise the City People's Committee on the draft Decision on urgent construction order, to be completed before April 5, 2026.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance coordinates to submit to the City People's Council to adjust relevant resolutions, determine the scope, starting point, and ending point of the project if necessary, and complete it before April 10, 2026.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board presides over the study of a plan to connect and transfer passengers at S0 station, ensuring connection with the extended Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line to Dong Nai and Line No. 1 (Binh Duong New City - Suoi Tien), and adjusting the route plan when necessary.

The Departments of Construction of the two localities advise the People's Committees to issue a plan to synchronously implement the project, including site clearance, coordinating with ACV and the Ministry of Construction to agree on the investment scope of routes at Long Thanh airport, to be completed before April 10, 2026.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment advises the City People's Committee on site clearance, compensation, support and resettlement for the 2.9 km long section passing through Ho Chi Minh City.

The total length of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro extended line to Long Thanh airport is more than 44 km. The preliminary total investment is more than 60,000 billion VND, of which most is expected to be implemented in the form of PPP (BT contract). The project is expected to be completed in 2029.
