On November 4, at Bach Long Vy port (Hai Phong city), Bach Long Vy Border Guard Station (under the Hai Phong Border Guard) coordinated with the Coast Guard Station Region 1 to organize propaganda to 357 fishermen working at 50 vessels about combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Viet Dung, Political Commissar of Bach Long Vy Border Guard Station, said that this is one of the activities to implement the peak plan to combat illegal fishing. This activity helps fishermen understand regulations and comply with Vietnamese and international laws in seafood exploitation.

At the propaganda session, 425 leaflets designed to be vivid, easy to access and remember were given to fishermen. The content of the leaflet includes IUU-related content, summarizing what fishing vessel owners and fishermen operating at sea need to remember and do, such as: having a license according to regulations; vehicles that need to hang Vietnamese flags when operating at sea; actively participating in protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands, maintaining security and order at sea and some other contents.
The organizing unit also propagated prohibited acts in fisheries exploitation activities such as: destroying aquatic resources, aquatic ecosystems, areas where fisheries are still concentrated; exploitation of aquatic products without a license, illegal exploitation of aquatic products in waters under the management of regional, national and territorial fisheries management organizations.
Through the propaganda session, the vehicle owners pledged that during the exploitation at sea, they would not violate IUU regulations.
As one of the fishermen who heard the propaganda, Mr. Dang Van Danh (born in 1962, residing in My Thanh, Phu My, Binh Dinh), owner of the vehicle BD-40730-TS, said: Through the propaganda session of Bach Long Vy Border Guard Station and Coast Guard Station Region 1, he grasped the basic contents of IUU and better understood the role of each ship owner in responsible fisheries exploitation, in accordance with international regulations.
At the propaganda ceremony, the organizing committee presented 50 flags to vehicle owners.
Bach Long Vy is the largest fishing port in the Gulf of Tonkin, located in the Bach Long Vy special zone, over 130km from the mainland of Hai Phong - where many fishing vessels of fishermen from Quang Binh and Quang Tri are concentrated to the Northern region.
