On the evening of January 1, the Traffic Police - Order Team of District 11 Police organized patrols on the roads, ensuring traffic order and safety in the area.
At around 9:00 p.m. the same day, the working group discovered that Mr. T.V.G (born in 1997, from Dong Thap) was acting suspiciously, so they signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection.
Through testing, the alcohol concentration was found to be 0.825 mg/liter of breath. According to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, driver G was fined 9 million VND by the traffic police (old level was 7 million VND).
Through investigation, Mr. G drank 5 cans of beer to celebrate the New Year with his colleagues who work as porters at Hoc Mon wholesale market and then drove home on Pham Hung Street, District 8.
Mr. G said that more than a year ago, he drank and drove a motorbike, and was fined 4.5 million VND by the Binh Chanh District Police, who temporarily confiscated his driver's license and vehicle. To date, he has not paid the fine to get his license and vehicle back.
“I was trying to save money to pay the fine to get my car back from the Binh Chanh District Police, but I didn’t expect to be fined again by the traffic police. The car I’m using is borrowed from a relative,” Mr. G said as he signed the ticket.
A traffic police officer said that if Mr. G violates the Road Traffic Law without a driver's license, the vehicle owner who lets this driver use the vehicle will also be fined from 8 to 10 million VND.
About 20 minutes later, Mr. D.N.D (born in 1991, from Thua Thien Hue) was driving a motorbike while not sober in District 11 and was also checked by the traffic police and found to have an alcohol concentration of 0.587 mg/liter of breath. Mr. D was also fined 9 million VND by the working group.
Mr. D said he works in construction. That night, he drank about 7 cans of beer with the contractor at a restaurant on Pham Van Dong Street, Binh Thanh District. He was driving home in Binh Tan District when he was stopped by the traffic police.

“I went out with friends but I have never drunk before. I sat and talked and drank half a glass of beer. I thought I would be fine after drinking that much and driving home, but I was fined by the traffic police,” said driver N.
During the night, several other drivers who violated alcohol concentration were also checked by the Traffic Police - Order Team of District 11 Police, fined, and had their vehicles temporarily impounded.
